Dodging the Dragon is a master combat achievement which requires the player to kill Vorkath 5 times without taking any damage from his special attacks and without leaving his area.
Strategy
[edit | edit source]The player must avoid Vorkath's special attacks for 5 kills in a row; taking damage from his special attacks and getting hit by the Zombified Spawn (regardless of the amount of damage it deals) will reset the streak and fail the task.
It is recommended to count Vorkath's attacks so the player is prepared to react accordingly; every 7th attack will be a special attack.
Acid Pool
[edit | edit source]Start walking right when the acid shoots up in the air. The tile you're standing on will always be coated in acid, and it hits faster than you'd think given the animation.
Ranged Method
[edit | edit source]The easiest, most consistent method is to remain 4 tiles north of the entrance during the initial 6 attacks, and evade the 7th acid pool attack by immediately moving to a tile adjacent to the entrance. Continue moving back and forth along the few tiles adjacent to the entrance to avoid Vorkath's rapid fireballs. The key to this strategy is the short line of tiles adjacent to the entrance which will never be covered by acid pools if you are not standing on them when the attack happens, allowing you to consistently avoid them. Be sure to move onto the tiles during the 7th attack and not start on them.
Melee Method
[edit | edit source]This is harder than ranged. Technically you can use the same tiles as in the ranged method, but you sacrifice DPS staying away from the boss, and 5 kills may strain your supplies.
You can try to melee and woox walk during it, but the random acid pattern can be difficult to dodge. To give yourself the best odds, rotate your camera to be above your character and facing Vorkath directly, so you can see clearly where the acid droplets are going to land. When the attack begins, move one tile backwards diagonally, and then depending on where the acid looks to be falling, find a location that will be safe to either woox walk and keep attacking, or to walk around while waiting for the special attack to finish.
Zombified Ice Dragonfire
[edit | edit source]Ensure you don't eat as the Ice Dragonfire attack is cast as you may incur an eat delay on your attack, causing you to not have ample time to defeat the Undead Spawn.
Equip your staff of choice that has autocast Crumble Undead on, and kill the Undead Spawn. If it hits you and explodes, you will fail the task, even if it deals 0 damage.
Gear
[edit | edit source]Use your best gear with Saradomin brews and super restores instead of normal food.
