The Praying Mantis is a grandmaster combat achievement which requires defeating the Doom of Mokhaiotl at delve level 8 without restoring any prayer points.

Strategy

Having a high Prayer level is beneficial for this achievement. While possible to do with base 99 Prayer, it is strongly encouraged players pre-boost pray with an ancient mace special inside their home against a combat dummy.

As Doom's attacks deal damage on impact, players can simply flick the incoming standard attacks. Avoid flicking offensive prayers outside of the car phase. This is not possible with exploding rock attacks, as they will land one tick after the other making it impossible to do so without taking damage. If having trouble flicking, a combination of Devout Boots, Ring of the gods (i), and Dragonbone necklace combined with the typical Elite Void will give a prayer bonus of +31, which halves prayer drain at the cost of some DPS.

This achievement additionally includes prayer restoration caused by melee punishes if applicable; if the holy water that results from a melee punish restores prayer, the player will fail the achievement. This will not occur if the player's prayer is at or above their base level; e.g if the player's Prayer level is 88 but their boost puts them at 122, they would not fail the achievement as no prayer points were restored. Using the Ancient mace special attack to boost prayer above one's level during the encounter, however, will fail the achievement.

Otherwise, try to unequip the main weapon and attack Doom unarmed; unless Doom has very little health, a melee punish is unlikely to kill. To be extra safe, a melee splash weapon such as the cursed goblin hammer can be used, which is guaranteed to do zero damage.

Saradomin brews can still be used, though this requires regular restore potions or menaphite remedies. The latter is more consistent, although it only restores on 15 second intervals.
