Repairing fishing cranes is a training activity in Port Piscarilius, requiring level 30 Crafting and 30 Construction. Repairing a fishing crane grants the involved players four times their Crafting level and four times their Construction level as experience for those skills. Only 30 to 60 seconds after having fixed a fishing crane, it will once again fall into disrepair.[1]

Broken fishing cranes require a hammer, three planks of the same type, and at least nine nails (of any type) to be repaired. Nails will bend easily when fixing a fishing crane. The chance to accidentally bend a nail depends on whichever is higher of the player's visible Crafting or Construction level.[2] Nails made out of a high-tier metal will not perform any better than bronze nails.[3]

Mechanics

[edit | edit source]

Whenever a character attempts to repair a fishing crane, one of two things happen. If they succeed in repairing it, the crane is fixed on the same tick they made the attempt, immediately rewarding experience. Alternatively, if they fail to repair it, they're considered to be repairing the crane for the next ten ticks. If left uninterrupted, they will automatically attempt to repair the crane again every ten ticks.

An attempt to repair the crane will be made on the first tick after having selected the repair option, followed by an additional attempt every tenth tick thereafter. Each failed attempt will lead to one nail being bent. It is possible to shorten this interval by interrupting it with another skilling action, allowing one to attempt a repair every seventh tick instead. Repeated clicks on a crane you've already attempted to repair before the seventh tick threshold will cancel the automatic ten tick repair attempts.

Every character attempting to repair cranes performs these rolls independently.[4] If one character succeeds in repairing it, all characters close enough to the repaired crane that are considered to be "repairing a crane" gain the experience, and have their current skilling action interrupted. This means that you still get experience if a nearby crane that isn't the one you attempted to fix was repaired, and that you still get the experience even if you cancel the repairing animation by alching, fletching, or just walking away. The only thing that matters is that it's repaired within ten ticks of your last failed repair attempt and that you're close enough to the repaired crane.

Once you do receive the experience for a successful crane repair, you lose nine nails and three planks. Regardless of when you receive this experience, you cannot attempt to repair another crane until seven ticks have passed since you last attempted to repair a crane, even if you receive the experience from another character successfully repairing a crane.

The dock workers do not make any actual checks to repair the cranes.

Success chance

[edit | edit source]

The chances of successfully repairing the crane scales with either the player's visible Crafting or Construction level – whichever is higher. The odds scale from a minimum of around 20% at level 30, up to a maximum of 30% at level 99.[5]
