Starting out

[edit | edit source]

Talking to Gnome Child before beginning event

[edit | edit source]
  • Gnome Child: Greetings, [player name].
  • How do you know my name?
    • Player: How do you know my name?
    • Gnome Child: In my realm, we can observe all deeds, hear all secrets, learn all truths, understand all things. We also know your name, [player name].
    • (Shows other options)
  • Who are you and why are you here?
    • Player: Who are you and why are you here?
    • Gnome Child: I am just a simple gnome. Perhaps to you I look unusual, but in my day all gnomes were green, like the trees where we live.
    • Gnome Child: I came here at the invitation of this friendly wizard, and soon he will help me depart again.
    • Can I help you?
      • Player: Can I help you?
      • Gnome Child: Your offer is kind, but for now I must direct you to the wizard, since he was the one who brought me here.
      • (End of dialogue)
    • You're saying all gnomes were green?
      • Player: You're saying all gnomes were green?
      • Gnome Child: Indeed. Even to this day, the Short Green Guy cocktail is so named because of this. In fact, Blurberry still instructs his apprentices not to bring him a gnome when he asks for a Short Green Guy.
      • (Shows other options)
  • I'll leave you alone for now.
    • Player: I'll leave you alone for now.
    • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Wizard Grayzag

[edit | edit source]
  • Wizard Grayzag: You're an adventurer, right? So you'll do errands for people?
  • Running your errands doesn't sound like an adventure!
    • Player: Running your errands doesn't sound like an adventure!
    • Wizard Grayzag: I thought of a way around that. To all but the most stultified mind, life itself is an adventure. And you would be alive while helping me. Therefore you would be having an adventure. Okay?
    • You've got me convinced. How can I help you?
      • Player: You've got me convinced. How can I help you?
      • Wizard Grayzag: Great! See, I'm famous for summoning imps, but I'm trying to get something more interesting. More demons, like the one in the cage, for example.
      • (Same as below)
    • By that logic, I can have adventures without helping you.
      • Player: By that logic, I can have adventures without helping you.
      • Wizard Grayzag: Look, can you just help me, please? I bet you wouldn't even be talking to me about this unless you were willing to help.
      • Alright, how can I help you?
        • Player: Alright, how can I help you?
        • Wizard Grayzag: Great! See, I'm famous for summoning imps, but I'm trying to get something more interesting. More demons, like the one in the cage, for example.
        • (Same as below)
      • I'm not interested in whatever this is.
        • (Same as below)
    • I'm not interested in whatever this is.
      • (Same as below)
  • How can I help you?
    • Player: How can I help you?
    • Wizard Grayzag: Great! See, I'm famous for summoning imps, but I'm trying to get something more interesting. More demons, like the one in the cage, for example.
    • Wizard Grayzag: But in the past there were much bigger demons. Such as Thammaron, in the Third Age. Imagine if I could get control of something like that - that'd show Mizgog who's smart!
    • Wizard Grayzag: But it didn't work. Instead of inventing time travel to the Third Age of Gielinor, my portal reached something called the Realm of Memories. And instead of a mighty demon, I got this weird kid.
    • Wizard Grayzag: He's creeping me out, standing there looking at me with that face. I need you to get the stuff he needs to reopen the portal to the Realm of Memories, so he can go away.
    • Tell me about this Realm of Memories.
      • Player: Tell me about this Realm of Memories.
      • Wizard Grayzag: Well, I wanted to access the Third Age of Gielinor, but that's not what this is. Instead, the Realm of Memories recalls how the world used to be, back when things were different.
      • Player: How is that different from accessing the past?
      • Wizard Grayzag: The kid tells me it's the exact same date in the Realm of Memories - it's still the Fifth Age, same as it is out here. It's not the history of Gielinor I've unlocked - it's the history of RuneScape.
      • Wizard Grayzag: Get the kid to explain it to you, if you care. All I know is that I can't get uber-powerful demons from there, so I'm no longer interested. Just make the kid go away.
      • (Shows other options)
    • Why don't you deal with the portal yourself?
      • Player: Why don't you deal with the portal yourself?
      • Wizard Grayzag: Well, the kid droned on and on about artefacts, and I think he wanted me to give him items, but it made no sense... honestly, his voice drives me mad, and I can't cope with him anymore.
      • Aren't you responsible for his predicament?
        • Player: Aren't you responsible for his predicament?
        • Wizard Grayzag: I didn't ask him to come through the portal! Anyway, he knows more about this stuff than I do. He's not a vulnerable innocent - and I'm not the archetypal Wise Old Man figure in this story.
        • (Shows other options)
      • Huh. So you want me to help him instead.
        • Player: Huh. So you want me to help him instead.
        • Wizard Grayzag: That's right. Off you go!
        • (Shows other options)
    • What am I supposed to do?
      • Player: What am I supposed to do?
      • Wizard Grayzag: Talk to the kid. He'll tell you to get some stuff. Honestly, he knows more about this stuff than I do. Just do what he wants, and make him go away.
      • Okay, I'll get on with it.
        • Player: Okay, I'll get on with it.
        • (End of dialogue)
      • Tell me about this Realm of Memories.
        • (Same as above)
      • Why don't you deal with the portal yourself?
        • (Same as above)
      • Maybe some other time.
        • (Same as below)
    • Maybe some other time.
      • Player: Maybe some other time.
      • (End of dialogue)
  • I'm not interested in whatever this is.
    • Player: I'm not interested in whatever this is.
    • Wizard Grayzag: Oh. Well, maybe another time.
    • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Wizard Grayzag after dialogue is interrupted

[edit | edit source]
  • Wizard Grayzag: I was telling you about the problem.
  • Player: Yes, carry on.
  • Wizard Grayzag: Great! See, I'm famous for summoning imps, but I'm trying to get something more interesting. More demons, like the one in the cage, for example.
  • (Same as above)

Talking to Wizard Grayzag after introducing Gnome Child

[edit | edit source]
  • Wizard Grayzag: Like I said, I opened a portal to the Realm of Memories, by mistake, and this weird kid came through.
  • Player: And you wanted me to help him with the portal?
  • Wizard Grayzag: He's creeping me out, standing there looking at me with that face. I need you to get the stuff he needs to reopen the portal to the Realm of Memories, so he can go away.
  • Tell me about this Realm of Memories.
    • (Same as above)
  • Why don't you deal with the portal yourself?
    • (Same as above)
  • What am I supposed to do?
    • (Same as above)
  • Maybe some other time.
    • (Same as above)

Talking to Wizard Grayzag (much) later

[edit | edit source]
  • Wizard Grayzag: That kid is still hanging around you know. Hurry up and get him what he needs so that he'll go away for good!
  • Player: What am I supposed to do?
  • (Same as above)

Having the Gnome Child follow for the first time

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Grayzag says I'm supposed to help you get some stuff for reopening the portal that brought you here.
  • Gnome Child: Thank you. To return to the Realm of Memories, I need artefacts of great historical importance. But I must visit those historic sites myself, to experience their significance as I collect the artefacts.
  • If the player has a follower and (Transcript missing - Unknown condition edit):
    • Gnome Child: I shall need you as my guide and protector, to lead me to these places. But you appear to have a follower already - perhaps you can relieve yourself of this encumbrance.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player has a follower and (Transcript missing - Unknown condition edit):
    • Gnome Child: I shall need you as my guide and protector, to lead me to these places. But you appear to have a follower already, and if I follow you now, it will be lost.
    • Follow me - I understand I'll lose my existing follower.
      • Player: Follow me - I understand I'll lose my existing follower.
      • Gnome Child: Are you really sure? Some followers are highly valuable and hard to replace. Are you really willing to lose it by letting me follow you now?
      • Yes, I am willing to lose my existing follower now.
        • Player: Yes, I am willing to lose my existing follower now.
        • (Transcript missing. edit)
      • Don't follow me now - I'll deal with my follower first.
        • (Same as below)
    • Don't follow me now - I'll deal with my follower first.
      • Player: Don't follow me now - I'll deal with my follower first.
      • Gnome Child: I shall wait.
      • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player does not have a follower:
    • Gnome Child: I shall need you as my guide and protector, to lead me to these places.
    • Follow me and let's go!
      • Player: Follow me and let's go!
      • Player: What do we need to do now?
      • (Same as below)
    • Maybe later.
      • Player: Maybe later.
      • Gnome Child: I shall wait.
      • (End of dialogue)

Having the Gnome Child follow subsequently

[edit | edit source]
  • Gnome Child: To return to the Realm of Memories, I need artefacts of great historical importance. But I must visit those historic sites myself, to experience their significance as I collect the artefacts.
  • (Same as above)

Taking the Gnome Child close to a disallowed area

[edit | edit source]
  • Gnome Child: This does not feel like the route I had expected. I would prefer not to go much further.
  • Alright, we can turn back.
    • Player: Alright, we can turn back.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • Stop following me if you don't want to be here!
    • Player: Stop following me if you don't want to be here!
    • Gnome Child: I shall wait with that friendly wizard in his tower. Meet me there when you are ready to continue.
    • The gnome child no longer follows the player.
    • (End of dialogue)

Taking the Gnome Child too far into a disallowed area

[edit | edit source]
  • Gnome Child: I shall wait with that friendly wizard in his tower. Meet me there when you are ready to continue.
  • The gnome child no longer follows the player.
  • (End of dialogue)

Gnome Child random lines

[edit | edit source]
  • A random dialogue is selected from the following:
  • Dialogue 1
    • Gnome Child: My heart overflows with gratitude for your help, [player name].
    • (Continues below)
  • Dialogue 2
    • Gnome Child: You are very kind to help me on this journey, [player name].
    • (Continues below)
  • Dialogue 3
    • Gnome Child: I am very much enjoying our time together, [player name].
    • (Continues below)
  • Dialogue 4
    • Gnome Child: Do you need to ask me something, [player name]?
    • (Continues below)

Talking to Gnome Child while following you

[edit | edit source]
  • The gnome child says a random line from above.
  • What do we need to do now?
    • Player: What do we need to do now?
      • If Wise Old Man is present at Draynor Village (not away during the Swan Song quest):
        • Gnome Child: We must visit Draynor Village and obtain the party hat of the Wise Old Man. Please take me to him.
        • (Continues below)
      • If Wise Old Man is not present at Draynor Village (away during the Swan Song quest):
        • Gnome Child: I had hoped to meet the Wise Old Man of Draynor Village. However I know he is away from home at the moment.
        • Gnome Child: What I need is his party hat. Perhaps you can take me to the old woman who spies on his house. She may be able to help us instead.
        • (Continues below)
      • Why would you want the Wise Old Man's hat?
        • Player: Why would you want the Wise Old Man's hat?
        • Gnome Child: Long ago, there was a break-in at the Draynor Village bank. A man smashed through the wall and stole a lot of money.
        • Gnome Child: In the course of the raid, a victim dropped her blue party hat, and the man took it. It is no secret that this was the Wise Old Man, though the bank remains discreet about it.
        • If the player has not bribed the guard: (Transcript missing - This condition is unconfirmed. edit)
          • Gnome Child: The bank's security footage of the event can be watched, if you ever wish, by bribing the guard who now patrols the area.
        • Gnome Child: As a memorial of that event, there can be no finer artefact than a blue party hat from the Wise Old Man.
        • Okay, let's carry on.
          • Player: Okay, let's carry on.
          • (End of dialogue)
        • Gnomes aren't usually green. How come you are?
          • Player: Gnomes aren't usually green. How come you are?
          • Gnome Child: I am just a simple gnome. Perhaps to you I look unusual, but in my day all gnomes were green, like the trees where we live. In the Realm of Memories, the old days are remembered thus.
          • Gnome Child: Even to this day, the Short Green Guy cocktail is so named because of this. In fact, Blurberry still instructs his apprentices not to bring him a gnome when he asks for a Short Green Guy.
          • (Shows other options)
        • Tell me about the Realm of Memories.
          • Player: Tell me about the Realm of Memories.
          • Gnome Child: Over time, many people have come into the world and left it again. One such is Thrander, who used to perform armour conversion services in Varrock. Another is Chuck, the wood certificate trader.
          • Gnome Child: When their services were no longer required, they moved on, but they were not all forgotten. Some linger still in the Realm of Memories.
          • Gnome Child: From the Realm, we watch how the world changes. We see the happy moments, the sad times, the lucky events, the dry streaks. It is a wonderful existence.
          • Gnome Child: There are monsters there too - demons and dragons as they looked in older days. Though they are not what Grayzag hoped to summon into the world, so he has no interest in the Realm.
          • (Shows other options)
        • Did Grayzag need historical artefacts to summon you?
          • Player: Did Grayzag need historical artefacts to summon you?
          • Gnome Child: He surely did, though he may not understand the significance of whatever items he used. Sadly he seems reluctant to speak to me himself, so I cannot enlighten his mind with my wisdom.
          • Gnome Child: Grayzag acquires all kinds of items from his imps, without necessarily understanding what they are. After so many years, it is of no surprise that he has stumbled across something useful at last!
          • Player: You mentioned that you needed to experience the significance of the artefacts yourself, for them to work. How did Grayzag manage that if he didn't understand what his imps had brought him?
          • Gnome Child: The artefacts would have been significant to the imps, in their own way. As their summoner, Grayzag's connection to the imps would convey the significance to him, whether or not he realised this.
          • So Grayzag doesn't really know how the portal worked?
            • Player: So Grayzag doesn't really know how the portal worked?
            • Gnome Child: I believe not, though I doubt he would ever acknowledge this! We shall have to acquire artefacts ourselves to reopen his portal. Best of all, I shall enjoy our walk together!
            • (Shows other options)
          • This all sounds very far-fetched.
            • Player: This all sounds very far-fetched.
            • Gnome Child: Would you tell a mountain it is too tall? Would you tell the sea it is too wet? The world does not seek our approval or belief; accept that things are as they are.
            • Gnome Child: Consider a world in which particles and waves were aspects of a single nebulous reality, and in which the passage of time could be dilated by gravitational effects. Is that not far-fetched?
            • Gnome Child: But no, the world need not conform to our expectations. A leaf blowing in the wind must go where the wind takes it, and a human living in this world must accept magic. Things are as they are.
            • Player: ... I see.
            • (Shows other options)
        • Can you stop following me now, please?
          • Player: Can you stop following me now, please?
          • Gnome Child: I shall wait with that friendly wizard in his tower. Meet me there when you are ready to continue.
          • (End of dialogue)
        • How are we supposed to get the old man's hat?
          • If the player has not completed Swan Song:
            • Player: How are we supposed to get the old man's hat?
            • (Continues below)
          • If the player has completed Swan Song:
            • Player: How are we supposed to get the old man's hat? He wouldn't give it to me when I helped him save that fishing colony!
            • (Continues below)
          • If Wise Old Man is present at Draynor Village (not away during the Swan Song quest):
            • Gnome Child: The world has changed since he first acquired that hat. I think I will get what I need.
            • (Continues below)
          • If Wise Old Man is not present at Draynor Village (away during the Swan Song quest):
            • Gnome Child: I expect the old woman will help us.
            • (Continues below)
          • Okay, let's carry on.
            • (Same as above)
          • Gnomes aren't usually green. How come you are?
            • (Same as above)
          • Tell me about the Realm of Memories.
            • (Same as above)
          • Did Grayzag need historical artefacts to summon you?
            • (Same as above)
          • Can you stop following me now, please?
            • (Same as above)

Using items on Gnome Child

[edit | edit source]
  • If the player uses a Draynor cabbage or a cabbage too early:
    • Nothing interesting happens.
  • If the player uses any other item on Gnome Child:
    • Gnome Child: It is kind of you to offer me your items, [player name], but that is not the way I need to acquire the artefacts to reopen the portal.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player uses a Draynor cabbage or a cabbage on the quest for a Falador cabbage later:
    • (Same as below)

The Wise Old Man

[edit | edit source]

Talking to Gnome Child while following you

[edit | edit source]
  • The gnome child says a random line from above.
  • What do we need to do now?
    • Player: What do we need to do now?
    • If Wise Old Man is present at Draynor Village (not away during the Swan Song quest):
      • Gnome Child: You were leading me to Draynor Village, so we could obtain the party hat of the Wise Old Man.
      • (Continues below)
    • If Wise Old Man is not present at Draynor Village (away during the Swan Song quest):
      • Gnome Child: You were leading me to Draynor Village, to speak to the old woman who spies on the house of the Wise Old Man. I would have preferred to meet him, to ask for his party hat, but he is away from home.
      • (Continues below)
    • Why would you want the Wise Old Man's hat?
      • (Same as above)
    • How are we supposed to get the old man's hat?
      • (Same as above)
  • Gnomes aren't usually green. How come you are?

Talking to the old woman

[edit | edit source]
  • Miss Schism: Oooh, my dear, have you heard the news?
  • (If the Wise Old Man is away from home during Swan Song:) Ask about the green Gnome Child.
    • If the green Gnome Child is not following the player:
      • Player: A gnome wants something from the Wise Old Man, and he said we should talk to you since the old man's gone away.
      • Miss Schism: Oooh, a gnome? Where is it?
      • Player: He was going to follow me, but he must have got lost somewhere. I'll go and look for him.
      • (End of dialogue)
    • Player: This gnome needs your help.
    • Gnome Child: Hello Miss Schism. Yes, as the Wise Old Man is away from home, I think you might be able to help me instead.
    • Miss Schism: You don't look normal! Where did you come from, and why are you in my village? Are you staying long?
    • Gnome Child: I came through a portal from the Realm of Memories, where I reside with other creatures who have vanished from these lands. I think you can help me to return there.
    • Gnome Child: From the Realm of Memories, we observed the old man's bank heist, in which he obtained a blue party hat. I need such historic artefacts to reopen the portal. Can you help me get it?
    • Miss Schism: Oooh, yes, I can help you, my dear. I've been in that house, and I know all his dirty little secrets. I found his store of holiday items, long ago.
    • Miss Schism: He'd been coming and going a lot, one Christmas, with some helpful idiot talking to him about filling in for Santa.
    • If the player participated in the 2017 Christmas event:
      • Gnome Child: I observed that incident from the Realm of Memories, yes. Do not let her make you feel bad about your role in that event, [player name].
    • Miss Schism: After that, I saw he'd got lots of holiday items hidden in his house, so of course I took some. So I've got blue party hats from the old man, and you can have one.
    • Will the hat work if it's not from the bank robbery?
      • Player: Will the hat work if it's not from the bank robbery?
      • Gnome Child: It should suffice. It is still the Wise Old Man's blue party hat, after all.
      • (Shows other options)
    • Why did you take the items from his house?
      • Player: Why did you take the items from his house?
      • Miss Schism: He didn't deserve them, you know. So of course I took them. He's got plenty more, so don't go feeling sorry for that old man. And they're evidence of his crimes, anyway.
      • (Shows other options)
    • We'll take the hat!
      • Player: We'll take the hat!
      • (Transcript missing. edit)
      • Gnome Child: Thank you so much.
      • Player: What do we need to do now?
      • (Same as below)
  • (Non-event dialogue) Ok, tell me about the news.
  • (Non-event dialogue) Who are you?
  • (Non-event dialogue) I'm not talking to you, you horrible woman.

Talking to the Wise Old Man

[edit | edit source]
  • Wise Old Man: Greetings, [player name].
  • Ask about the green Gnome Child.
    • If the green Gnome Child is not following the player:
      • Player: A gnome needs your help, and he sent me here.
      • Wise Old Man: Could he not come here himself?
      • Player: Actually, yes, he was going to follow me, but must have got lost somewhere. I'll go and look for him.
      • (End of dialogue)
    • Player: This gnome needs your help.
    • Gnome Child: It is an honour to meet you, Dionysius. As [player name] says, I do need your help.
    • Wise Old Man: A green gnome? Now there's a blast from the past - even I wasn't around back in your day! Why are you here, you little marvel?
    • Gnome Child: I came through a portal from the Realm of Memories, where I reside with other creatures who have vanished from these lands. Now I need your help to return there.
    • Gnome Child: From the Realm of Memories, we observed your bank heist, in which you obtained the blue party hat. I need such historic artefacts to reopen the portal. May I have the hat, please?
    • Wise Old Man: My lovely blue hat is seen as an historic artefact? That is most gratifying! I had not expected that my... little shopping trip... would become such a renowned event in your culture.
    • Gnome Child: Very much so. Furthermore, I know that the hats were very precious in that era, but they are different nowadays. May I please have it?
    • Wise Old Man: Oh, alright. I've got plenty of spares from that time I filled in for Santa at Christmas.
    • (If the player has participated in the 2017 Christmas event:) For you to be Santa, I had to illuminate a reindeer's nose.
      • Player: For you to be Santa, I had to illuminate a reindeer's nose.
      • Wise Old Man: I remember an extremely unpleasant reindeer called Dolph with a glowing nose, yes. The others called him Rude Dolph. Ah, the happy memories!
      • (Shows other options)
    • (If the player has completed Swan Song:) You wouldn't give me the hat at that Fishing Colony!
      • Player: You wouldn't give me the hat at that Fishing Colony!
      • Wise Old Man: Maybe I was still using it as my emotional support hat at the time, and I couldn't bear to part with it. Or maybe I just see its value differently these days.
      • (Shows other options)
    • We'll take the hat!
      • Player: We'll take the hat!
      • The Wise Old Man hands Gnome Child his blue party hat, and immediately puts a spare one on his own head.
      • Gnome Child: Thank you so much, old man!
      • Player: What do we need to do now?
      • Gnome Child: We must visit Lumbridge, and obtain the navigational chart of a man named Hans. It is a unique chart that has steered his life for many years now.
      • What's special about this navigational chart?
        • Player: What's special about this navigational chart?
        • Gnome Child: Some forces in this world move in mysterious ways. Gravity, the Anima Mundi and the price of granite mauls are just three everyday examples.
        • Gnome Child: Hans may move more predictably, but his navigational chart will reveal the guiding principles that steer him, so that we can better understand this iconic facet of our world.
        • Okay, let's carry on.
          • Player: Okay, let's carry on.
          • (End of dialogue)
        • Gnomes aren't usually green. How come you are?

          • (Same as above)
      • Where can I find Hans?
        • Player: Where can I find Hans?
        • Gnome Child: Hans patrols the courtyard of Lumbridge Castle, as he has done for many years. Many people remember him as one of the first friendly faces they encountered in these lands.
        • Gnome Child: His long-term contribution to our society renders him historically significant, and an artefact from Hans would be a precious gift.

Talking to the Wise Old Man after dialogue is interrupted

[edit | edit source]
  • Wise Old Man: Greetings, [player name].
  • Ask about the green Gnome Child.
    • Player: Regarding that hat of yours - this gnome thinks it can help him.
    • For you to be Santa, I had to illuminate a reindeer's nose.
      • (Same as above)
    • You wouldn't give me the hat at that Fishing Colony!

Talking to Hans

[edit | edit source]
  • Hans: Hello. What are you doing here?
  • (Non-event dialogue) I'm looking for whoever is in charge of this place.
  • (Non-event dialogue) I have come to kill everyone in this castle!
  • Can we talk about this Gnome Child?
    • Player: Can we talk about this Gnome Child?
    • If the Gnome Child is not following the player:
      • Hans: That sounds interesting - I don't meet gnomes very often. In fact, I can't see one now.
      • Player: He was going to follow me, but he must have got lost somewhere. I'll go and look for him.
      • (End of dialogue)
    • Hans: Can I help the gnome with something?
    • Gnome Child: Yes, Hans. I have long admired your faithful patrol around this castle, and your friendly greetings for new arrivals in the land.
    • Gnome Child: Now I need your navigational chart to help me get home to the Realm of Memories.
    • Hans: Well, I suppose I should be able to find my way without it, after all this time, so I don't mind letting you have it. But will it actually help? It's never led me to any other realms.
    • Gnome Child: As an artefact of historical importance, I can use its inherent powers to reopen the portal to the Realm of Memories, where I reside.
    • Gnome Child: Furthermore, it may explain much about your own movements over the years.
    • Hans: ... okay, I suppose you know what you're doing. Here, take it!
    • A whimsical tune plays while the navigational chart is displayed, showing the compass moving erratically.
    • Gnome Child: Thank you so much, Hans.
    • Player: What do we need to do now?
    • Gnome Child: Also in Lumbridge, we must visit the Cook in the castle kitchen. I would like to collect his recipe book.
    • What's special about this recipe book?
      • Player: What's special about this recipe book?
      • Gnome Child: For many new arrivals in Gielinor, their first adventure is helping the Cook to bake a cake. Indeed, it is one of the oldest adventures of all time!
      • If Cook's Assistant is started and in progress:
        • Player: Yeah, I'm supposed to be helping him myself.
        • (Continues below)
      • If the player has completed Cook's Assistant:
        • Player: Yeah, I've done that for him myself.
        • (Continues below)
      • Gnome Child: This recipe for cakes is famed among the many generations who have passed through Lumbridge, and I greatly desire the recipe book.

    • If the player has not completed Cook's Assistant:
      • Gnome Child: You are especially famous for asking adventurers to get cake ingredients for you.
    • Cook: I keep running out of supplies! There should be a Grand Exchange outlet in every town - that'd be a proper 'quality of life' improvement. How does anyone train like this?
    • Cook: Also, shops should have instant restocking of items, and there ought to be an option to stop food ever burning - that'd make Cooking less frustrating. And a frustrating world is a badly designed one.
    • Cook: Really, people who just want to cook well immediately ought to be able to choose that, while people who want to train the skill slowly should be able to do that instead. Then everyone would be happy.
    • Gnome Child: I see some things have changed since my era! But no, I do not need a cake. What I need is your recipe book, the one you have been following for all the cakes you have made throughout the years.
    • Cook: Why?
    • Gnome Child: It is an artefact of great historical importance. Even before my own time, you were here in Lumbridge sending adventurers out to bring you cake ingredients.
    • Gnome Child: This recipe is one of the oldest legends in our world, and I would greatly appreciate the book from which it comes.
    • Cook: Alright, I can work from memory now. I've tried this recipe so many times, you know. One day I'll get it right - so far, all the cakes just burn, so I have to send another adventurer to fetch more ingredients.
    • The Cook's Recipe Book is shown.
    • Gnome Child: Thank you so much.
    • Player: What do we need to do now?
    • Gnome Child: We must visit Bob, who can be found in the Lumbridge axe shop. He is an incredibly important figure in Gielinor, and I seek his autograph.

        • If the player is on a members' world:

    • Gnome Child: It is a great honour for me to meet the mighty Bob. In my realm, you are hailed as one of Gielinor's most famous heroes.
    • Bob: Huh! That's very kind of you, I suppose. I guess I've served the people of Lumbridge faithfully for many years.
    • Gnome Child: Oh, but you are too modest! Your defeat of the Dragonkin in ancient times was a truly historic achievement, and I am a great admirer of yours. May I have your autograph, please?
    • (If Bob has died in Dragon Slayer II:) Sorry, Gnome Child - the Bob you want is a dead cat.
      • Player: Sorry, Gnome Child - the Bob you want is a dead cat. He fell in battle fighting another Dragonkin. This Bob is someone totally different.
      • Gnome Child: From the Realm of Memories, we saw that Bob was disguised as a cat so effectively that even he forgot who he had been.
      • Gnome Child: Is it a mere coincidence that this man bears the same name? Or might his name reveal an underlying truth - that Bob is Bob?
      • THE CAT IS DEAD. ACCEPT IT.
        • Player: THE CAT IS DEAD. ACCEPT IT.
        • Gnome Child: Even when a story has ended on a sad note, there can always be a sequel. I shall continue believing that Bob is Bob, even if you think their names are just a coincidence.

Talking to Gnome Child

[edit | edit source]
  • Gnome Child: Hello again, [player name].
  • Tell me about this place.
    • Player: Tell me about this place.

    • Gnome Child: Like me, they dwelt in the world as it used to be, in various different eras. Many such people have faded away into the mists of time, but a lucky few are remembered.
    • Gnome Child: They would be glad to meet you, I am sure.
    • (Shows other options)
  • Can I see more stuff from your era?
    • Player: Can I see more stuff from your era?
    • Gnome Child: I would have dearly loved that. However we are limited to this hall, where the more aggressive creatures can play in safety.
    • Gnome Child: Furthermore, the dimensional shifts would not allow it - a two-dimensional entity would be incomprehensible to your three-dimensional mind.
    • Gnome Child: No, some things must be left to the memory, even here in the Realm of Memories.
