Ammonium nitrate is a quest item. It is used in The Dig Site quest along with nitroglycerin, ground charcoal, and arcenia root to make a chemical compound.

It is obtained by using the chest key to open the chest near the panning point, and is brought to Terry Balando, who identifies it as ammonium nitrate. Before he identifies it, it is known as chemical powder.

• Multiple powders can be obtained from the chest if another player opens it. In this case one can save time on obtaining a chest key or using their own.
• Ammonium nitrate is used in some explosives with nitroglycerin. These are often referred to as ammonium dynamites.
• Ammonium nitrate is also used as fertiliser.
