A funeral pyre, or pyre boat, is used in Barbarian Firemaking to burn mangled or chewed bones obtainable only from monsters in the Ancient Cavern. Constructing a pyre ship requires an axe, logs, a tinderbox or bow, and either mangled or chewed bones. The ship must be constructed at the "pyre site" locations on the side of the lake. A bruma torch cannot be used to light a pyre ship.

Constructing a pyre with mangled bones will spawn a level 166 ferocious barbarian spirit that needs to be killed before attempting more sacrifices. Using chewed bones spawns a peaceful barbarian spirit who will reward the player with an item, the full drop table of which can be found here.

Burning a pyre ship with chewed bones will grant the player an experience bonus of up to 300% the next time they bury bones, with the number of affected bones depending on the logs used. In order to receive this bonus, the player must have fully completed the Firemaking portion of Barbarian Training. Mangled bones will not give the bonus. Higher tier logs will enhance more bones for every pyre ship burned, but in turn require higher Crafting and Firemaking levels. This bonus only applies when burying bones - using them on an altar such as the gilded altar or chaos altar does not apply or consume the bonus; this does however work on lava dragon bones on lava island for increased experience. This bonus also stacks, meaning you can offer multiple chewed bones at a time to amass multiple charges of bonus experience.
