Donkeys are domesticated equines that are used as working animals in Gielinor, such as for the purposes of pulling carts.[1][2] Not much else is known of them, as they are only directly referenced during the What Lies Below quest when the player character mistakes a rickshaw cart for a donkey cart.
However, they are also indirectly referenced on a number of other occasions:
- The Dancing Donkey Inn in Varrock is named after them.
- During Rum Deal, while the player character asks a brewer about a priest, he says in response that they want to go on a donkey ride, but he has too much sand in his bucket.[3]
- Wurbel the gnome compares a gnome baller's skill at Gnome Ball to that of a donkey.[4]
- During The Eyes of Glouphrie, in response to hearing that the player character was responsible for doing all the hard work uncovering the Arposandran spies for Brimstail, King Narnode Shareen says that getting others to do the donkey work for them is a skill that Mages develop well.[5]
- While speaking to Fancy Dan, the player character claims that they thought nothing could be more disgusting than braindeath 'rum', causing Captain Braindeath to interject and talk about his new Braindeath 'Rum' Classic, which he claims to be 200% more disgusting than the competitors. He also gives a disclaimer that the dangerous amount of "disgustin'" in the beverage is too much for "pregnant women, donkeys, and anyone with more than seven letters in their last name."[6]
- During Animal Magnetism, Ava claims that Helda the witch "would talk the hind legs off a donkey."[7]
- When using any type of burnt fish on a great blue heron, the heron will scold the player, calling them a "dancing donkey".[8]
- As part of the bonus event included in the 2018 Christmas event, players could help lift the curse placed on the cowboy by attempting to pin a cow tail on the rear of a cow lacking one, which was explained in the accompanying update post as "a twist on the traditional party game of pin the tail on the donkey".[9]
