Kalphites can be assigned as a Slayer task at level 15 combat by all Slayer masters, with the exception of Wilderness Slayer master Krystilia. Kalphites come in a wide variety of levels, which is why they are possible tasks from all Slayer masters. They can be found in the Kalphite Lair in the north-west Kharidian Desert, as well as in a Slayer task-exclusive area, the Kalphite Cave, just east of Shantay Pass.

Kalphites comes in four varieties: workers, soldiers, and guardians, as well as the boss monster the Kalphite Queen. With the exception of the Queen, all Kalphites use melee attacks. Additionally the soldiers and guardians can induce poison starting at 4 and 6 Hitpoints damage respectively. This poison bypasses protection prayers. Protect from Melee and some type of poison immunity will completely negate damage from the workers, soldiers and guardians.

Optimal Tasking

Tasks of kalphites should be done at the Kalphite Cave, as they provide open chambers with numerous kalphites which significantly speed up completion times. The cave contains five chambers; two contain workers, another two contain soldiers and the last one contains guardians. If forced to do the task at the Kalphite Lair by Konar quo Maten, soldiers should be cannoned for fast task progression.

Players who want a quick task of kalphites should cannon workers, while those looking for experience should cannon soldiers instead. Guardians will generally never be an optimal choice, as they are more sparse, much larger and have a worse cost/experience ratio compared to soldiers.

Killing the Kalphite Queen is not recommended either unless the player is in the progress of or has completed the Elite Desert diary and has 86 Agility, as accessing the boss is incredibly cumbersome without it; two ropes are likely needed for every trip to the boss without completion of the hard tier set, while a long run is needed without the shortcut, which is only usable with the elite diary.

Keris weapons

The keris is a dagger awarded from completing the Contact! quest. It increases damage against all kalphites by 33% with a 1/51 chance of dealing a hit with tripled damage. This keris dagger is not recommended because of its low stats. Other weapons, like a dragon scimitar or abyssal whip, are more accurate and consistent in damage.

With completion of Beneath Cursed Sands, the player will gain access to an upgraded keris partisan; this polearm is more accurate, deals more damage, and gains a crush option which takes advantage of kalphite weakness to crush attacks. The keris partisan is a strong weapon choice.

Players who discover a Breach of the scarab (from the Tombs of Amascut raid) can attach it to the partisan to make the keris partisan of breaching. While this requires 80 Attack in order to wield (compared to the normal partisan's 65 Attack), the breaching partisan provides an additional 33% accuracy against kalphites. This allows it to surpass weapons like the inquisitor's mace and scythe of vitur in performance for a fraction of the price.
