The Temple Guardian (also known as Spots) is a dog-like monster that dwells in the entrance of the underground passageway to Canifis.

Players are required to kill the Temple Guardian in the Priest in Peril quest. Attempting to attack the monster outside of the quest will result in the message You have no reason to attack a helpless dog!

Magic or a cannon cannot be used to kill it; attacking it with magic will result in the message Your spells do not seem to affect it.

The temple guardian will not respawn after being killed.

It can be killed without gaining combat experience using Saradomin brews and rings of recoil, though at least 1 damage must be dealt by the player for the kill to count.

It is considered a dog in regards to slayer tasks.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • If a player tries to attack the Temple Guardian after the quest Priest in Peril, the player will receive the message "I'd better not make the King mad at me again!". This refers to what happened during the aforementioned quest.
  • Dark beasts used to look like a dark-brown version of the Temple Guardian.
  • According to King Roald III of Misthalin in issue 23 of the Postbag from the Hedge, the Temple Guardian's nickname is 'Spots', and claims "he's a pedigree light beast - or er, was it dark beast".[1]
