Food/Fast foods
Fast foods refer to a subtype of food that incur non-standard attack or eating delays when they are consumed. This means you may be able to eat them faster, or attack more quickly after eating one than you could with standard foods.
Food Delays
[edit | edit source]Game time is measured in ticks, and 1 tick is 0.6 seconds. Standard food, when eaten, adds a 3 tick (1.8 second) penalty to when a player may eat again. If the player has attacked recently and is currently waiting on a weapon delay to attack again, this also adds a 3 tick (1.8 second) delay before that attack. These timers are separate and can be influenced independently.
Attack delay
[edit | edit source]The attack delay refers to the time which a player must wait before they may attack again with a weapon in combat. When a player eats a piece of food while they are waiting to attack again, an additional delay of 3 ticks (1.8 seconds) is normally added. Non-standard attack delay food includes gnome cooking, cooked karambwan, and halibut which have a 2 tick attack delay, meaning a player has only a 1.2 second delay added to the next attack after eating one in combat.
- A player utilising foods with a lower delay will get more attack actions than a player using standard food.
- Compared to standard food, with an attack speed of 4 ticks, players utilising these faster foods can expect an additional attack for every 4 food consumed.
- Foods only add to an existing attack delay between weapon attacks. If your weapon is ready to attack again then eating does not add any new delay.
- This means eating should always be performed before starting to attack a monster.
- A good example would be Zulrah, where combo-eating at the start of a phase before attacking can result in one more attack on the boss, when compared to attacking first and then starting to eat.
Eat delay
[edit | edit source]The eat delay refers to the time which a player must wait before they can consume another piece of food. For most standard foods this delay is 3 ticks (1.8 seconds). Non-standard eat delay food includes the first slice of anchovy pizza or the first slice of apple pie, both of which have a 1 tick eat delay. This means a player has only a 0.6 second delay before eating another piece of food. This can be chained in sequence.
- By eating the first slice off three different anchovy pizzas, a F2P player can restore nearly twice the amount of hitpoints (27) a swordfish (14) would restore in the same amount of time.
- This would still incur a 3 tick attack delay on the third bite.
- Pizza halves, as well as apple pie halves, have a higher eat delay of 2 ticks, so you may wish to recombine your pizza slices into a faster full pizza. Note that single pie slices cannot be combined.
- Members' pies have a 1 tick eat delay for both slices, meaning that wild pie and summer pie, both at 11 hitpoints per bite, can be competitive with manta rays (22) in some situations, since three bites (33) can be consumed in the same time as a single manta ray.
Combo eating
[edit | edit source]
Combo eating is a strategy that allows the healing effect from multiple foods to apply in a single server tick. This is because "combo foods" do not respect the eat delay incurred by other foods, allowing you to eat both at the same time. A player can combo eat by clicking a combo food during the starting eat animation of a non-combo food, both items will disappear and apply healing at the same time.
This is most commonly performed by eating a standard food such as a shark followed by a combo food like cooked karambwan. The 3 tick Eat delay is then incurred normally. Combo eating allows a player to restore large chunks of Hitpoints much faster than other eating methods, and is commonly used for tackling difficult content. However, note that combo eating stacks the attack delay, meaning eating a shark with a karambwan results in a 5 tick attack delay.
- Premade Gnome cooking foods are also capable of combo eating and can be considered as cheaper alternatives to karambwan.
- Non-barbarian potions respect a different delay timer, meaning a sip of any non-mix potion can be included in a combo eat action. The order matters, for example a common mixture is shark to saradomin brew to karambwan for some of the highest burst healing in the game.
- While combo foods like karambwans are popular, mixing these with the previously discussed Eat delay foods is relatively unknown in the community and can result in interesting or powerful results.
Pseudo combo eating
[edit | edit source]Pseudo combo eating (also known as F2P combo eating) consists of using a 1 tick eat delay food such as the first slice of an anchovy pizza or apple pie and immediately following it up with another food such as a swordfish. This results in both the heals occurring 1 tick apart, which is slower than possible with combo foods but still faster than simply eating multiple swordfish.

Healing potions
[edit | edit source]Potions do not incur the standard 3 tick (1.8 second) attack or eat delay. This can make them the best source of healing for some types of PvP; or a powerful tool for PvE situations where damage is a higher priority than inventory space, such as competing for bossing drops, or speed related combat achievements.
For example, a player releasing snowy knights instead of eating normal foods would be able to heal for 15 hitpoints every 1.8 seconds without losing any attacks. This can be a substantial amount of damage and outperform even Karambwans which only add a 2-tick (1.2 second) delay to attacking.
