The Homunculus is an artificial life-form that can be found in the Tower of Life. During the eponymous quest, three alchemists create and then torture the Homunculus. After the quest, it takes up residence in the tower's basement, where it assists in the creation of hybridized monsters as part of the Creature Creation activity.

Homunculus is Latin for 'little man' and references the creation of a miniature human being in alchemy. This is contrary to the Homunculus's design, with it being taller than humans.
A Homunculus was a mythological creature said to be created by using Alchemy to combine parts of different animals to create a hybrid. They were said to be human-like in manner and appearance but lacked a soul.
