Infected roots can be found at the northern end of the Ruins of Mokhaiotl and cut with 80 Woodcutting, after completion of the The Final Dawn quest.
Demon tears and logs can be chopped from the roots, with rates up to 700 tears and ~9,100 experience per hour being possible at 99 Woodcutting and with a dragon axe. Infected roots don't deplete, so one action will continue cutting until a player's inventory is filled with logs. Despite rewarding normal logs, the Kandarin helmet will not double the logs received, and felling axes will not consume forester's rations or destroy any logs or tears received; however an infernal axe can destroy logs.
The roots function similarly to the sacred eels of Zul-Andra and ancient essence at the Ancient essence crystals: while they provide very little experience, they offer a low intensity skilling alternative to gather a common boss resource. Demon tears collected from these roots are not counted in the Collection log.
Starting with an empty inventory, a single click will yield an average of 202.5 demon tears and 2,700 Woodcutting experience before the inventory is filled with 27 logs, assuming that one is not using the infernal axe or log basket; with both upgrades one can expect up to around 650 demon tears, although it may be necessary to still interact with the game client to avoid getting logged out for inactivity.
Fires cannot be lit within the area, stating , so the logs are only able to be dropped or fletched.
As long as you start chopping the roots while you are boosted to level 80 Woodcutting, you will continue to chop them past when the boost falls below 80.
