Germaan is my forgotten main, may he rest in peace (renamed to 'Alsekr'). Hjaldr is my ironman, forever, by the way.

"Germaan" is the Dutch word for the noun 'Germanic', as in "A Roman and a Germanic walked into a bar." I am not a German, but I am Dutch person with predominantly Germanic ancestors, and thus a Germanic. Dutch people are not 'Deutsch', which is how Germans refer to themselves. Dutch people call themselves 'Nederlanders', as they live in 'Nederland', which is Dutch for 'The Netherlands'. Germans call their country 'Deutschland' and their language 'Deutsch', and call the Dutch 'Niederländer' and the Dutch language 'Niederländisch'. I am also a 'Hollander', because I am from Holland, which makes me 'Hollands' in Dutch or 'Hollandic' in English, but not all Dutch people are Hollandic, since Holland is only a region that spans across the two provinces of Zuid- and Noord-Holland, or South- and North-Holland in English. While these are the two most populous provinces, housing roughly 6.5 out of the 18 million citizens of The Netherlands, other regions of The Netherlands are not part of Holland, despite many languages referring to the entire country as 'Holland', due to the predominance of the sea-adjacent Hollanders in the sea-faring trading days of yore.
