"Brass monkey" was the name originally given to an unobtainable item that exists in the game cache. It was created to replace the noted form of the dyed wig from Prince Ali Rescue. Since items could not be fully removed once created, it was added in a hidden update in 2005 to fill this slot.

The name and examine were designed to be inconspicuous, but the actual item is just a copy of a pink skirt. If players attempted to view the Brass monkey in game by using cheating software, they would be given a Hex edit detected instead.

In RuneScape, the item later became viewable via Quick Chat, causing much confusion. It was deleted from the game cache in 2017, being replaced by Buchu seeds.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The name and examine are a reference to the colloquial expression of describing the weather as "cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey".
