"Sphinx baby" was the name originally given to an unobtainable item that existed in the game cache. It was created to replace the noted form of the small fishing net from the Evil Bob random event. Since items could not be fully removed once created, it was added in a hidden update in 2005 to fill this slot. The actual item was just a copy of a pink skirt.

If players attempted to view the sphinx baby in game by using cheating software, they would be given a hex edit detected instead.

In RuneScape, the item later became viewable via Quick Chat, causing much confusion. It was deleted from the game cache in 2018, being replaced by barbed arrows.
