"Lifeboat" was the name originally given to an unobtainable item that exists in the game cache. It was created to replace the Viking toy ship. Since items could not be fully removed once created, the lifeboat was added in a hidden update in 2005 to fill this slot. The actual item was just a copy of a pink skirt.

If players attempted to view the lifeboat in game by using cheating software, they would be given a hex edit detected instead.

In RuneScape, the item later became viewable via Quick Chat, causing much confusion. It was deleted from the game cache in 2023, being replaced by an item resembling the original toy ship. This in turn was replaced by the Boss helper tool 3 months later.
