Ogre coffins are coffins located in the Jiggig Dungeon and just outside Jiggig directly south.
Accessing Ogre coffins requires partial completion of the quest Zogre Flesh Eaters. Attempting to pick-lock the chests before starting the quest will result in an Ogre guard telling you to speak with Grish.
The coffins can be opened by either of two means:
- Picking the lock requires level 20 Thieving, yielding 27 experience. Failing to pick the lock yields 0.5 thieving experience and lowers your Thieving stat temporarily.
- Opening the coffin using an Ogre coffin key. Keys are obtained from drops by Zogres and Skogres in Jiggig.

Failing to unlock the coffins outside of Jiggig can cause the Ogre guards to knock you out and throw you in the Jiggig Dungeon if they manage to reach you. They can be safespotted by standing between the northern coffin and the centre coffin allowing you to continuously pick the coffins without being caught.
Coffins can be looted safely inside or just outside the dungeon, provided the player's combat level is 89 or greater to avoid aggression from the skogres and zogres.
The locks cannot be picked whilst in combat; attempting to do so will display the message,
Each time you fail and your fingers get numb, your Thieving level will be temporarily drained by 1-4 levels. Note that this drain will stack with itself, and if your Thieving drops below 20, you will not be able to pick the lock. Failure is frequent even for players with Thieving levels in the 80s. Lowered Thieving levels can be restored by drinking super restore potions or sunlight moth mixes.
Failure also carries a chance to break a lockpick, if used. Every attempt, successful or not, can inflict disease starting at 10 severity. The chance to become diseased is lower at higher Agility levels. Disease, lockpicks breaking, and Thieving level draining can all happen simultaneously.
Success chance
editThe chance of successfully picking the lock of an ogre coffin is determined by one's Thieving level, and whether or not a lockpick is used. Without a lockpick, the success rate ranges from around 10% at level 20, up to a 50% chance at level 99. Using a lockpick, the odds scale from around 15% at level 20, up to a maximum of 75% at level 99.[1]
Successfully picking an ogre coffin, will allow you to open an adjacent ogre coffin instantly, if your loot message isn't "You find something." The most notable loots that can generate an instant coffin open are - Zogre bones, and Fayrg bones. This action is tick perfect. You must click the adjacent coffin the tick you get an interface.

Loot
editDrop rates are estimated based on 21,111 samples from the Drop Rate Project, unless otherwise cited.
The bones table and the other drops are rolled independently; it is possible to receive loot from either table or both.
The average ogre coffin opening is worth 3,594.04.
When the cost of an ogre coffin key is subtracted, a coffin is worth 1,278.04 on average.
Bones
editCertain bones lifted from an ogre coffin can award a large amount of Prayer experience. These can be especially useful when offered on a gilded altar, ground into bonemeal and used to worship the Ectofuntus, or being broken down into blessed bone shards.

editTrivia
edit- Ogre coffins were meant to award more types of herb than just lantadyme and dwarf weed, but due to a fault in the way the drop table was written, all spots on the corresponding subtable occupied by lower-tier herbs instead hand out a grimy lantadyme when rolled.[2]
