Rune nails are the second strongest type of nail. They are made by using a runite bar on an anvil with a hammer in the player's inventory, requiring 89 Smithing, yielding 15 rune nails and granting 75 Smithing experience per bar.

Rune nails can be used to construct certain types of wooden furniture. They rarely break but are expensive relative to other types of nails. With 56 Construction, five rune nails can be used along with two mahogany planks to repair broken bridges in the Hallowed Sepulchre, granting 700 Construction experience; without a hallowed hammer in the player's inventory, there is a chance of failing to repair the bridge and breaking nails in the process. With 77 Fletching, they can be used on flighted ogre arrows to create rune brutal arrows, granting 12.5 Fletching experience per arrow. With 83 Crafting, fifteen rune nails can be used with a redwood shield and two pieces of black dragon leather to craft a black d'hide shield, granting 172 Crafting experience per shield.

Rune nails are required for use in Shipbuilding components at the Runite and Ironwood tier.
