Brewing is a part of the Cooking skill that allows players to create alcoholic drinks, such as ales and cider, by fermenting ingredients. They all provide temporary skill boosts for varying skills as well as lowering some combination of Attack, Strength, and Defence. Every drink has a mature form which increases both the negative and positive boosts.

There are three fermenting vats. One is located in eastern Keldagrim, on the 1st floor[UK]2nd floor[US] of the Laughing Miner Pub. The other vats are located in Port Phasmatys underneath The Green Ghost pub and in the Moonrise Brewery and Winery on Aldarin island in Varlamore.

Brewing process

[edit | edit source]

The main ingredients for ales are: 2 bucket of water, 2 barley malt, 1 ale yeast, and optionally: 1 the stuff.

To complete a full run, you'll need 6 buckets of water, 6 barley malt, 3 ale yeast, all ingredients and optionally: 1 the stuff.

You will also need 24 beer glasses or 6 calquat kegs.

Steps
1. Use 2 bucket of water on the fermenting vat
2. Use 2 barley malt on the fermenting vat
3. Optional: Use 1 the stuff on the fermenting vat, increasing the chance to mature the ale from ~4.7% to 64% (the stuff will be consumed)
4. Use the ingredients specific to the brew type you want to make
5. Use 1 ale yeast on the fermenting vat
6. Wait for 3 x 640 minute cycles (with the stuff added, between 3 x 640 and 16 x 640 minutes)
7. Use the valve to drain the completed ale into the barrel
8. Use 8 beer glasses or 2 calquat kegs on the barrel full of the completed ale

Cider

[edit | edit source]

The main ingredients for cider are: 4 buckets of apple mush, 1 ale yeast.

To complete a full run, you'll need 12 buckets of apple mush and 3 ale yeast.

You will also need 24 beer glasses or 6 calquat kegs.

Steps
1. Use 4 buckets of apple mush on the fermenting vat
2. Use 1 ale yeast on the fermenting vat
3. Wait for 3 x 640 minute cycles
4. Use the valve to drain the completed ale into the barrel
5. Use 8 beer glasses or 2 calquat kegs on the barrel full of the completed cider

Fermentation time

[edit | edit source]

Brewing relies on the same farming cycles as hardwood trees, redwood trees, and anima[1] - despite this, the Kronos plant has no effect on fermenting.[2] There are three stages that each brew must go through in order to complete, advancing to the next stage at the next growth tick.[3] Brewing ticks only occur every 640 minutes. However, there is an offset for farming ticks that is different for each player and persists through logins.[4] To determine this offset, note the time when a hardwood, redwood, or anima patch grows one stage, or when a brew completes and compare with the closest time on the table below. Apply the time difference to every time in the table. For example, if a brew completes at 10:18 AM on Day 1, subtract 22 minutes from each time listed.

Cycle length Main crops Base growth times(GMT)
640 minutes Hardwood, Redwood, Anima, Brews Day 1: 12:00 AM, 10:40 AM, 9:20 PM
Day 2: 8:00 AM, 6:40 PM
Day 3: 5:20 AM, 4:00 PM
Day 4: 2:40 AM, 1:20 PM

In the table above, Wednesday 1 April 2026 is Day 1. (Note: This is usually today, but does not always update immediately when the date changes. Refresh the page to force it to update.) The next stage will occur in approximately 9 hours and 46 minutes (refresh). When (after refreshing) this timer indicates 10 hours and 40 minutes, this signifies a Farming tick just occurred (due to the farming tick varying between accounts, it is recommended to wait another 15 minutes).

The first stage begins immediately after adding ale yeast. The second stage will occur on the next growth tick where it is possible for the still fermenting brew to become mature. The final stage has three possible outcomes: a completed normal ale, a mature ale, or a bad ale. Bad ales are green and useless, and must be drained from the vat and then the barrel.

Standard times to complete when not using the stuff, is at minimum 1,281 minutes, about 21 hours and 20 minutes, or 1 minute past 3 growth ticks. At maximum it will be 1,920 minutes or 32 hours, which is the full 3 growth cycles. This depends on when you start the fermentation process during the current cycle. When using the stuff, the standard times to complete is at minimum 1,281 minutes, about 21 hours and 20 minutes, or 1 minute past 3 growth ticks. At maximum it is 10,240 minutes or 1 week.

Brewing outcomes

[edit | edit source]

There are three possible outcomes when brewing a batch of ale: the mixture can either go bad, ferment into a regular batch of ale, or ferment into a batch of matured ale. The chances of a vat of ale maturing are dependent on whether players add in "the stuff" or not; the chances of ale maturing naturally is 5%, whilst adding "the stuff" increases this chance to 64%.[5] The odds of the ale going bad will always be 12.5%, regardless of whether "the stuff" has been added or not. Lastly, the player's Cooking level should influence the outcome of the brewing process, but player testing shows otherwise.[6]

Mature ales provide stronger effects and heal more, and using "the stuff" is highly recommended if attempting to brew mature ales. It must be added right after the barley malt is added, as it is not possible to put it in afterwards. In addition, "the stuff" cannot be added to a vat of cider, and so matured cider must always be brewed naturally.

When a batch of ale is complete, using "turn valve" will automatically transfer the finished ale to the barrel. The examine text will say "The vat is filled with [beer name]" when the brewing process is complete. If you attempt to turn the valve before the brewing is complete the contents of the vat will be emptied and lost.

Without "the stuff"

[edit | edit source]

When no "stuff" is added to the mixture, players can expect the following rates:

Outcome Chance
Mature ale 6/128
Regular ale 106/128
Bad ale 16/128

With "the stuff"

[edit | edit source]

When "the stuff" is added to the mixture, the odds are adjusted to the following:

Outcome Chance
Mature ale 82/128
Regular ale 30/128
Bad ale 16/128

Types of ale
