Runite bars are used in the Smithing skill to smith various runite weaponry and armour. At level 85 Smithing, players can smelt a runite bar by using runite ore and 8 pieces of coal with a furnace, granting 50 Smithing experience for smelting and 75 Smithing experience for smithing, yielding a net of 125 experience.

For free-to-play, apart from smelting, the chest in Bryophyta's lair is the only way of obtaining runite bars.

Three of them can be obtained occasionally when opening the crystal chest.

A runite bar is required for Song of the Elves; Ironmen may choose to offer the buyable Rune platelegs to the Nest (nice) as an easy way of quickly obtaining one.
