In-game riddles, revealed from the previous four clues[1], include performing the Bow, Yes and Clap emotes in succession while being next to various NPCs:
Solving the riddles will reveal that the player must perform the bow, yes and clap emotes in succession between some trees south of Varrock, east of the stone circle. They also must have nothing equipped and only have a plain pizza, a wooden shield and cheese in their inventory. |
Solving this clue will grant the player the ornate helm. If the correct conditions are met, the Mysterious Old Man will appear, telling the player "Here, take this. But tell no one I was here." Otherwise, he will appear and tell the player "I'm sorry, but you are no use to me."
[edit | edit source]
The event was first teased via a player's Old School Monthly Retrospective email (if they've opted in via "Email and Communication Preferences" in the Account Settings on the website).
When all of the pieces were correctly placed, it made the image "22nd". In addition, if a player attempted to view the image directly (ex. by using the inspect element function on various browsers), the file was revealed to be named "CtC2teaser2.png"
The event was also confirmed via the notes for Version 177.3.2 of Old School RuneScape Mobile on the App Store:
“ | Join thousands of players attempting to unearth the hidden treasure scattered across Gielinor. The first person to solve all 5 clues will earn a special in-game reward. Be sure to keep an eye on our social media channels for the weekly clues! | ” |
"Leaked" clues[edit | edit source]
During the birthday stream on 22 February, players discovered the first clue via url guessing and successfully solved the clue before the event was officially announced.
On 26 February, players discovered the second clue using the same method, but was not successfully solved by anyone. When asked about the clue in the weekly Q&A the next day, Mod Mat K stated that players would know it was not a real clue had they actually solved it, intending to mislead players who attempted to prematurely obtain the real clue:
“ | What you needed to do, is you needed to take this probability calculation and put it into the right distribution, which is the Poisson distribution, which, as we all know, is French for fish. Anyway, you'd come out with an RGB code, which was red. And the solution is a red fish. A red herring. And you guys couldn't even get that, and you think you're gonna solve Crack the Clue? I don't think so! | ” |
