Prospector kit

The prospector kit is an experience-boosting set, purchasable from Prospector Percy's Nugget Shop in the Motherlode Mine for a total of 180 golden nuggets, which are obtained occasionally when cleaning pay-dirt, or from Petrified Pete's Ore Shop near the Volcanic Mine for a total of 120,000 volcanic mine reward points. Pieces purchased from Petrified Pete cannot be sold back to Prospector Percy for golden nuggets; attempting to do so will yield the message "You can't sell this item back to Percy as you did not buy it from this shop".

The full set, when worn, grants +2.5% bonus Mining experience. Players who have completed the elite Varrock Diary may wear Varrock armour 4 in place of the jacket.

Despite having two lights attached to it, the prospector helmet does not act as a light source. Wearing pieces of the kit in the Desert will however reduce the need for waterskins, similar to the desert robes.

Star fragments, purchasable from Dusuri's Star Shop for 3,000 stardust each, can be used to recolour pieces of the kit into the golden prospector kit, costing a total of 12,000 stardust for the entire set. Pieces from both versions of the kit may be worn together to obtain the set bonus, however this change in appearance cannot be undone, nor can pieces of the golden prospector kit be sold back to Prospector Percy for a refund.

Wearing the prospector helmet while entering the Mining Guild is one of the tasks in the hard Falador Diary. The golden prospector helmet will also complete the task.

This set can be stored in the armour case space of a costume room in a player-owned house. Ultimate Ironmen will be unable to retrieve individual pieces until the full set is stored.

When obtaining the set, it is slightly more efficient to start by purchasing the more expensive items first. This can be calculated by adding up the experience boosts one would get when buying the items in either order.

[1] This relates to the relative XP boost to the cost of the piece. Prospector armour doesn't increase golden nugget chance.

Treasure Trails

• Wearing the full prospector kit whilst mining a piece of runite ore is required to complete a master clue scroll skill challenge assigned by Sherlock. Varrock armour 4 can be used in place of the prospector jacket for the purposes of this clue.

• Obtaining the 180 golden nuggets needed to purchase the full set from Prospector Pete would require mining 5,760 pay-dirt on average.
