Infected roots can be chopped to receive Demon tears, used as ammunition for the Eye of ayak, to craft the Confliction gauntlets, and upgrade the Avernic treads.

They can be chopped in the Tonali cavern after completion of The Final Dawn, just outside the entrance to where the Doom of Mokhaiotl is fought. The player will continuously chop them after 1 click until their inventory is full, as the roots will occasionally yield logs. It is recommended to simply drop all of the logs, as there are no banks nearby, and Fletching them into arrowshafts is less profitable than continuing to chop roots. Depending on levels and axe used, players can harvest 500–700 demon tears (209,000292,600 coins) per hour, only needing to click every ten minutes or so to drop logs.

With the use of an Infernal axe and a log basket, AFK times can be dramatically increased to over 30 minutes; however Felling axes will have no additional effect.
