The Crypt of Tonali is one of seven holy sites of the Losanium religion, located in the Tlati Rainforest. Built by the Old Ones, the entrance to the crypt is a ziggurat with a large tree atop it, with a passageway in the tree allowing access to the underground caverns as well as the Ruins of Mokhaiotl. The entrance and the interior is guarded by Tonali Warriors and Archers.

The crypt is the location where the Teok Xiki, or the Gathering, is performed to select a new Teokan upon the death of the previous one. As a holy site, the teoki of Ralos and Ranul - Xopanatl and Nenetl - are responsible for the crypt.

Features

The Tonali Cavern is an area beneath the crypt filled with monsters, including earthen nagua, grimy lizards, skeletons, moss giants, giant rock crabs, and rockslugs; as well moonlight moths that can be caught with the Hunter skill. Teleporters around the area and a stepping stone and log balance Agility shortcut (both requiring level 46 Agility) can be used to navigate the cavern. A dwarf multicannon cannot be used here as "An ancient magical force won't let you set up a cannon here."

Further north contains a lift platform that can be activated to allow a two-way transit from the central section of the Tlati Rainforest, allowing quick access to this part of the crypt. West of this lift is a chest which can be looted to obtain two Tonali teleporters, which allow instant teleportation between the two nodes placed in this area within a 30 tile range from each other. The western moon chamber contains grimy lizards, while the eastern sun chamber contains earthen nagua, both of which are in a multicombat area and only appear after completion of The Final Dawn.

Beyond the crypt is the entrance to the Ruins of Mokhaiotl.

Trivia

edit
  • Tonali is likely derived from the Nahuatl word "tonalli". In Mesoamerican religion, the tonalli was considered to be part of the soul, located in one's hair. It represents the warmth of the sun, and it is said that losing the tonalli results in illness and eventually death.
