The Tunnel of Chaos can be found during and after the What Lies Below quest. The entrance is east of Varrock, under the Saradomin statue south of the Jolly Boar Inn. A bronze pickaxe is needed to excavate the statue, which Anna Jones, sitting next to the statue, will give the player upon speaking with her. If any other pickaxe is used, Anna Jones nearby will stop the player from excavating.

It is also the safe shortcut to the Chaos Altar for Runecraft which avoids the Wilderness. The portal is at the far north-west end of the tunnel and requires a Chaos talisman or a Chaos tiara in order to pass. The portal leads to the second level of the Chaos Maze. Traverse the maze, heading westward until you reach a ladder in the north-west corner that you can climb down. The chaos altar will then be a few steps to the east.
